The hardness of mold components can be influenced by the following factors:
- Toughness
Mold components often face harsh working conditions, some of which may endure significant impact loads, leading to brittle fractures. To prevent sudden brittle fracture of mold parts during operation, the mold must possess high strength and toughness. The toughness of the mold primarily depends on the carbon content, grain size, and structural condition of the material.
- Wear resistance
When the workpiece undergoes plastic deformation in the mold cavity, it moves and slides along the cavity surface, resulting in intense friction between the cavity surface and the workpiece, leading to mold wear. Therefore, wear resistance of the material is one of the fundamental and crucial functions of the mold.
- Fatigue fracture performance
During the working process, mold components often experience fatigue fracture under the long-term action of cyclic stress. This can manifest in various forms such as low-energy repeated impact fatigue fracture, tensile fatigue fracture, contact fatigue fracture, and bending fatigue fracture.
