Description
What Are Bevel Gears?
Bevel gears are conically shaped gears used to transmit mechanical power between intersecting shafts, typically at a 90° angle. The teeth are cut on the conical surface and can be straight, spiral, or zerol (curved with zero spiral angle). SDP/SI-style precision bevel gears manufactured to Gleason®/Coniflex® standards.
Types of Bevel Gears We Offer
Straight Tooth Bevel Gears — The most common and economical bevel gear type. Straight teeth cut on a conical blank. Suitable for lower-speed applications where noise is not critical. Available in precision and commercial grades.
Spiral Bevel Gears — Teeth cut at a helical angle (12°–20°) for smoother engagement, higher strength, and quieter operation. Ideal for high-speed, high-torque applications in automotive, aerospace, and industrial drives.
Zerol Bevel Gears — Combine benefits of straight and spiral bevel gears. Zero-degree spiral angle at the center of face width produces no axial thrust, allowing bidirectional rotation. Can be ground-finished for higher precision.
Hypoid Bevel Gears — Offset shaft axes allow the pinion to be larger and stronger than conventional bevel gears. Higher contact ratio enables greater torque transmission. Used in automotive differentials and heavy machinery.
