Description

What Are Helical Gears?

Helical gears are cylindrical gears with teeth cut at an angle (helix angle) to the axis of rotation. The angled teeth engage gradually, resulting in smoother, quieter operation compared to spur gears. Helical gears can transmit power and motion between parallel shafts (parallel helical gears) or non-parallel, non-intersecting shafts (crossed helical gears).

Advantages Over Spur Gears

• Higher load capacity due to greater tooth contact ratio
• Smoother and quieter operation (gradual tooth engagement)
• Reduced vibration and noise in high-speed applications
• Higher torque transmission capability
• Superior performance in continuous-duty industrial applications
